“So it’s official, I can tell him?” Peach asked on Thursday when told junior running back Ja’Terian Douglas was named to the 5A All-State first-team.

Vikes Compile Impressive Stats

img_4761.jpg The 2008 Lamar football season is now complete. While the Vikings did not reach their primary goal of returning to the state playoffs, there were a number of positive aspects to the season including some great statistical accomplishments.

The Vikes set several records this season and led the area or district in other statistical categories.

Loss to Martin Ends Lamar's Season

Sophmore Danzel Williams rushed 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead Arlington Martin (4-6, 4-2) to a 48-28 District 4-5A victory over Arlington Lamar (5-5, 2-4) Friday night at Cravens Field. With Mansfield's victory over Arlington, a Lamar victory of any margin would have put the Vikings in the playoffs. Instead, Martin advances to the post-season.

VIKING FANS, that is where we are right now. We must win by 10 points Friday night vs. Martin to ensure that our season will continue. A victory by that margin means Lamar would earn a playoff spot through a point differential tie-breaker between the Vikes, Warriors and Mansfield Tigers. On the other hand, if Mansfield beats Arlington High, then Lamar can get into the playoffs simply with a victory (margin won't matter).
 
THE VIKES, WITH YOUR HELP, ARE GOING TO WIN THIS FOOTBALL ARMAGEDDON by the necessary points and guarantee a spot in the playoffs!

Mansfield Defensive Play Caps Win Over Lamar

circle.gifIn a game filled with offensive highlights, it was defense that made the difference for the Mansfield Tigers in a 49-38 victory Friday night over Arlington Lamar.

The victory at R.L. Anderson Stadium helped the Tigers keep pace in a hotly contested District 4-5A race. Mansfield (5-4, 3-2) entered the contest in a three-way tie with Lamar (5-4, 2-3) and Arlington Martin for third place in the standings

Loss to Mansfield Drops Vikes to 5th Place

The Lamar Vikings dropped a critical district ballgame Friday night, 49-38 to the Mansfield Tigers at R.L. Anderson Stadium. The Vikes' loss, combined with Martin's win over Mansfield Summit, puts the Tigers and Warriors in a tie for 3rd place and the Vikings in 5th. The top four teams make the post-season. Next week, Lamar faces Martin in the regular season finale at Cravens Field. Get a recap and stats from the Dallas Morning News. Third Place at Stake in 4-5A

Lamar (5-3, 2-2) and Mansfield (4-4, 2-2) enter Friday’s game at R.L. Anderson Stadium in a three-way tie for the third place in District 4-5A. Neither team can clinch an outright playoff spot with a win, but a victory would put either team in great position to secure a postseason spot next week. Lamar leads the all-time series 9-1, but the past two games have been decided by a combined eight points. Friday’s contest features the top two rushers among Class 5A area schools. Lamar’s Ja’Terian Douglas leads 5A area rushers with 1,710 yards while Mansfield’s Stepfan Taylor is second with 1,294 yards.
